Acting, singing, dancing. Musicals have become very popular as of late. I believe this began when "Chicago" was made into a movie and then really accelerated with the "High School Musical" series. Now people watch musicals each week on "Glee." But I've always been an active fan of musical; I literally go to theaters to see musicals and collect Play Bills. Today I was watching "Reefer Madness" which I saw live as a free production at Michigan my sophomore year. Its basically a spoof of a PSA film that was suppose to scare people away from smoking weed. Even though I can be somewhat conservative at times and don't engage in that herbal escape, the musical is hilarious. I also love Kristen Bell's work so it was nice to see her in the movie. Here is the song "Mary Jane/Mary Lane" where Jimmy is trying to quit smoking and professes his love to Mary Jane and Mary Lane.
Next is "Legally Blond: The Musical." This was broadcasted on MTV once and I became so obsessed with it that I tried to see it in multiple cities. I eventually got to see it in Detroit and was not disappointed. I didn't watch the MTV show "Search for the next Elle Woods" though because I didn't want them to ruin the songs. Here's are two of my favorite songs from the musical.
If you are a fan of music, give musicals a try. They often time get a bad rap, but I feel like there is a musical out there for everyone. Speaking of musicals, remember the infamous "Carmen: A HipHopera?" Hilarious. Here's a random clip of it below. The didn't have a lot online, and the quality is poor, but at least it will spark your memory.
