[Music Video Review] Drake - Hold On, We're Going Home / Drake discusses return to acting

Drake releases the visual for his single "Hold On, We're Going On."  Unlike his other videos in which Drake is usually hanging out and having a good time with his friends, Drake is playing a character in this cinema-like visual.  Set in Miami 1985, Drake gets into the action to save his girl.  The throwback theme matches the old school feel of the song and reminds me of previous Michael Jackson videos from that time period.  The video is directed by The Matrix director, Bill Pope.

Drake also commented on the video with MTV News.  Watch the video below where he describes the influence for this video and what's next for his acting.

Drake Interview with Jimmy Fallon, Charades with Scarlett Johansson, Perrforms "Too Much" off Nothing Was The Same

Drake stopped by Jimmy Fallon and talked about his upcoming album, Nothing Was The Same, and his upcoming tour, Would You Like A Tour?

After Jimmy Fallon imitates Miguel's dance moves, Drake, Jimmy, Tariq, and Scarlett play charades with Jimmy and Drake winning.

Drake then premieres a new song off of Nothing Was The Same, "Too Much,"  Before performing the song, Drake says "Before I do this song, I just want to say to my friends and family, I want the best for everybody, and I love y'all."  A great interlude for a song pushing for his friends and family to do more, such a pursue their dreams, get out of the house, and live life.  It's a very personal song, just like "Look What You Done" from Take Care is.  Very excited for the album.

[Music Video] The Weeknd feat. Drake - Live For

Visual from the 4th single off Kiss Land, "Live For."  While this song mostly refers to their tour lifestyle and fame, listeners can apply this to their own lives.

And you, have to, do it all
Just to know where it gets you

It is important to live and have experiences, while remembering who has your back.

Drake talks about "Hold On, We're Going Home" as "Timeless," "Wedding Song."

Music News

I'm so obsessed with the new Drake song that I had to do more research on it because I can't get enough of it.  I found this video on MTV News.

In approaching this album I was like man, it would be great if we had a record that was played at weddings in 10 years or that people that are away from their families in the army could listen to. Something that just [has] timeless writing, timeless melody.

Drake also explain that Majid Jordan is a singing/production group with Majid being the singer and Jordan the production.

I also found the picture of a signed lyric sheet from Majid.

Drake-Hold On, We're Going Home ft Majid Jordan

New song released by Drake.  Reminds of a little bit of Justin Timberlake because its a bit dancy. Still has Drake's signature R&B sound though.  Drake singing voice always tends to make me smile.

You might be wondering who the featured artist is, Majid Jordan.  According to this Spin article, Majid Jordan is actually Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman, hailing from Toronto.  Not much information is available on them, but supposedly they also helped produce the song.

Drake and The Weeknd Reunite (on Instagram)

The Weeknd mentioned he was cool with Drake, even thought they haven't been photographed together, in his interview with Complex.

So when you read things about how you two are not cool…
—he’s like me when it comes to shit like that, too. He loves reading that stuff.
You both just brush it off?
Of course. I don’t like to spoon-feed people. I don’t like to be like, “You know what? I’m going to let the world know that we’re cool. We’re going to take a picture together. Everyone’s cool.” It’s all about the mystery, and people like it. Shit’s WWE, man. It’s wrestling, you know what I mean?
So I hope this silver spoon has fed you good.

The Weeknd Does His First Interview [Complex Magazine August/September 2013]

In The Weeknd first interview ever.  He talks about his shyness, why he has resisted interviews in the past and why he is doing them now, his upcoming project Kiss Land, and his supposed "beef" with Drake.  Click here to read

What I find interesting was the amount of work he did on Drake's Take Care.  I didn't know he contributed "Shot For Me" and "Practice."  I was aware of "Crew Love" and "The Ride" but I didn't think that they were originally going to be on House of Balloons.

That was my whole thing: I’m going to let the music speak for itself. I’ll show them that this is what I do. But I’m very good at letting shit slide. If I wasn’t…

—you’d go crazy.
I feel like I’m already crazy. I just wouldn’t be able to focus on my music. If I didn’t let shit slide, I’d probably still be working on Echoes of Silence right now. But, I know how to let go of bullshit.
I think that's an important take away, to be able to let go off the bullshit and focus on whatever your passion is.

Another noteable quote
It’s all about the mystery, and people like it. Shit’s WWE, man. It’s wrestling, you know what I mean?
Read the story the further understand the context behind that quote

PARTYNEXTDOOR Album

From Drake's OVO Sound.  Great music to ride to this summer.  I love the sample of Miguel's "Girl with the Tattoo" on "Break From Toronto." Click this link to go to the OVO blog for the download link and iTunes link.

[Music Video Review] Drake - Started From The Bottom

Many people are hating on Drake because his "bottom" is not the typical bottom of most rappers.  But each person's bottom is different.  For Drake, it can feel like being from the suburbs doing well in a job you don't like and being stuck in the snow of the North.  For others, it may be something with a bit more edge.  However, this video shows that no matter what your bottom is, the view is best from the top when you are with the people who were there for you all along.

[Music Video Review] Kendrick Lamar ft. Drake - Poetic Justice

According to Wikipedia, Poetic Justice is "a literary device in which virtue is ultimately rewarded or vice punished, often in modern literature by an ironic twist of fate intimately related to the character's own conduct." This device is evident in both the video and the song.  Kendrick has a way of having many different level and elements of his songs that can be understood in different ways.  On first glance, the song title "Poetic Justice" might just be a reference to the Janet Jackson/Tupac film, but it also is a reference to this literally device and how him trying to meet up with Sherane ultimately turns out.  The song is filled with double entredres and ironic twists.  This also translates in the video.  Kendrick wants to be alone with Sherane, and he ultimately is, but in death.  He thought Sherane was the only one for him and vice versa, but she was also talking to other dudes, including Drake.  Very reminiscent of Romeo + Juliet, the Leonardo Dicaprio/Claire Danes version.

[Article] "Weed, Top Chefs and Rick Ross: Drake Ranges Wide on New Album" via Rolling Stone

Interesting article about Drake in the studio and his approach to the album "Take Care." I agree with his comment on single.

"I hate singles. I don't want people to just hear a piece and judge the album on that."

Drake ~ Marvins Room (Official Video) from OctobersVeryOwn on Vimeo.

Just a short clip for the "little song that could." One song that he posted on his blog that kinda blew up into a blog culture phenomenon with all of its remixes.  Very excited for "Take Care" and the new single if this is the direction he is going in.
