[Album Review] Tyga: Careless World: Rise of the Last King

Tyga has been in the game for awhile.  Before being associated with Young Money, he put out a few mixtapes and a studio album "No Introduction."  He was featured on the "We Are Young Money" album in 2009.  He also did the "Fan of a Fan" mixtape with Chris Brown that produced the Grammy nominated single "Dueces."  While Tyga has an impressive resume before this album, "Careless World: Rise of the Last King" does seem like his official introduction to the world as an individual artist.  Although the album has a lot of features, including Big Sean, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Drake, Robin Thicke, T-Pain, Nicki Minaj, and J. Cole, they are only actually features; Tyga is able to hold up the songs on his own.  He's like the suit and the features are just the accessories that compliment the outfit.  The album has a "King" theme, many of the interludes and the songs focus on what it takes to be king, how he is a king, and how this came about.  Although prominent, the King theme isn't a gimmick.  It fits well with the album, his songs, and Tyga himself.  Ironically, although the King theme is present, the album was held back from physical release because of clearance from Dr. Martin Luther King's estate from using a quote from one of his speeches.  Although that is missing now, he does quote many other famous people, including Maya Angelou, LL Cool J, and an OG of the rap game, Dr. Seuss.    He also features the classic portion of the song where he raps acapella, and also the essential feature of your mother on the album.  While sometimes the album seems like it following a formula such as with the classic R&B/rap song and many radio friendly songs, the album still seems genuine and that this is the image that Tyga wants to project.  While in the past Tyga has often been featured on songs, its nice to see him stand out on his own and a man, king, and solo artist with his own point of view.  The production on the album is also outstanding, For example, some of the songs transitioning into different beat ("Careless World", "Love Game") which adds a nice texture to the album.

Stand Out Tracks: "This Is Like," "Let It Show," "Muthafucka Up"
